Release the Kraftin’ with ID Fabrications
Unleash your inner sea monster with this dramatic Kraken Crown! Using our custom DIY bases, you’ll create a showstopping headpiece perfect for mermaid cosplay, sea witch looks, or Halloween adventures.
Materials You’ll Need:
- ID Fabrications Tentacle Crown Base
- ID Fabrications Black Pearl Pirate Ship
- Rustoleum 2X Ultra Cover spray paint in black (primer)
- Craft paint in copper and teal
- Rustoleum Clear Gloss (sealer)
- Double halo headband
- ¼” black elastic
- E6000 glue
- Heat gun
- Hot glue gun
- Faux flowers (ocean-colored for wave effect)
Step 1: Heat Mold the Tentacles
Use a heat gun to gently shape the forehead tentacle piece to your desired curve. Slow, steady heat and pressure work best. This is the only piece that needs molding for this design.
Step 2: Prime Everything
Once molded, prime all your crown pieces using Rustoleum 2X spray paint in black. This gives you a clean base and helps your paint adhere properly.
Step 3: Paint for a Patina Look
Use copper and teal craft paints to mimic aged, oxidized copper. Lightly dry brush or dab the paints in layers to create depth. When dry, seal with Rustoleum Clear Gloss for shine and durability.
Step 4: Assemble the Base Crown
Attach the painted tentacles and pirate ship to a double halo headband using E6000 glue. Let everything cure fully before wearing.
Step 5: Add the Tentacle Circlet
Wrap ¼” black elastic around each side of the headband and secure it to the tentacle centerpiece with E6000 to create a circlet-style anchor for the front.
Step 6: Embellish with Faux Flowers
Use hot glue to secure faux flowers all around the base, giving the illusion of ocean waves crashing around the tentacles and ship. For water-safe versions, use E6000 instead.
Finished Look
A truly epic sea monster crown, ready for cosplay, photoshoots, or a dramatic entrance at any event!
